Objectives: The aim of the narrative review “Acceptance and Attitudes Toward Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Among the Male Population—A Narrative Review” is to present studies available in the literature concerning men’s acceptance, attitudes, and willingness to receive HPV vaccination, taking into account their social and demographic determinants.
Methods: A literature review was conducted in the PubMed and ScienceDirect databases, covering publications from 2021 to 2026. The search was tailored to the specific characteristics of each database using appropriate filters.
Key findings: Decisions regarding HPV vaccination made by men and boys—either independently or with parental involvement—depend on many factors. These include: awareness of the risk and knowledge about HPV and HPV vaccination, vaccination costs, economic status, health insurance coverage, vaccine availability, systemic and sociocultural barriers, disability, special needs, illness, national health policy, logistical issues, perceived vaccine safety, health education, religious and cultural beliefs, general attitudes toward vaccination, ethnicity, place of residence, marital status, exposure to adverse childhood experiences, educational level, age, sexual orientation, recommendations from healthcare providers, and the influence of relatives and friends.
Conclusions: This review highlights a broad spectrum of factors influencing acceptance of and attitudes toward HPV vaccination among men. The findings underscore the need for multilevel interventions that include health education, improved clinical communication, efforts to reduce misinformation, and the implementation of gender-neutral strategies.
