Civilization diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, are significant drivers of ocular pathologies such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Objectives: This review evaluates the impact of physical activity and nutrition on preserving ocular health and preventing vision loss.
Methods: Following PICOS criteria and PRISMA guidelines, 18 studies were analyzed, encompassing both observational and clinical trial data.
Results: Regular aerobic exercise can reduce intraocular pressure by 1.2–3 mmHg and enhance retinal blood flow, lowering glaucoma and retinopathy risks by up to 18%.
Conclusions: Structured lifestyle interventions are essential non-pharmacological tools in modern ophthalmology.
